The Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a one-year pre-sea training program designed for students who aspire to become deck officers in the Merchant Navy. Approved by the Directorate General of Shipping and affiliated with the Indian Maritime University (IMU), the course combines classroom learning with practical training in navigation, seamanship, cargo operations, and maritime safety. After successfully completing the DNS course, cadets join a shipping company for onboard training as deck cadets, gaining real-time sea experience. On completion of required sea time and examinations, candidates can progress to become officers and eventually captains, building a rewarding global maritime career.
